Oct 2022
Welcome to my hobby workspace – Oct 2022 edition! It’s a bit of a mess at the moment, but that’s how most of our hobby tables are, am I right?! Let me give you a quick tour and showcase some the items I use. Click on the TOOLS and MATERIALS button to see what I use.

The table is an IKEA top and leg combo that I can’t recall the name of. I want to say it is at least 15 years old. It has gone through several home moves over 2 states and stills holds up my stuff. Not bad for laminated cardboard and thin-walled steel legs.
If you have it within your budget, you can get a fancy light. I simply use 2 swing arm desk lamps with LED Daylight bulbs. Plenty of lighting for day or night use and I can position the lighting where it needs to be.
I use a cutting mat not only to prevent cuts on the tabletop, but to act as a quick measuring tool as well as a paint/glues barrier. The one I use is a Fiskars Self Healing Cutting Mat 24″x36″. They say it’s self healing, but I have gouged deep slices into the surface, but I guess that is better than the table itself, eh?! I do want to say that having that printed grid pattern to use as a quick measuring tool is great as not all cutting mats have a printed grid pattern surface.
For a tool caddy, it’s custom to my needs at the moment. It is based with an old IKEA small wooden cutting board and the compartments are made up of cardboard scraps held together by hot glue. I like using hot glue, so I incorporated a hold glue gun holder as well as a glue stick supply holder. I also get by with basic crafting tools like pens, rulers, sanders/files, cutters – both scissor and retractile blade types. I also have a spot for simple pliers.
Now after you get your hobby tools and such, what project are you going to start on? You can check out my Projects page to see what I am working on. You can also check out my other social channels for Work In Progress pics and notes. Drop me a comment or just say “Hi”.
